"I hope when I am first drawing in pencil (monochrome), there is nonetheless the depth, resolution and feel of colour. Drawing is – to me – working through an invisible net that seems to stand between what one feels and what one can do to reproduce this feeling. When colour is finally added, there is an explosive release. Mood can affect colour application, too. I have begun a painting of the sky with an orange base in acrylic, but when I return to work on the painting, I now see this same sky as blue or gray. Nothing is lost, however; the colour orange gives a glow from underneath."
